Lusaka's subtropical climate, growing economic center, rich history, and diverse community are all what attract so many to visit and live in this area. While English is the official language, Nyanja is the most prevalent language spoken in the city.
This capital may be a highly visited and lived-in area, but poverty is a huge issue here. With the growth of the city, prices are rising and causing more hardships for many families who live in the city and the surrounding area. Around 60% of the population of Zambia is under the poverty line.
Zambia faces decades of economic decline, geographical and social problems, government issues, widespread diseases, and a lack of education, specifically literacy. Roughly 14 million people in Zambia live on less than $1 per day pay rate, causing so many of these issues, placing them below the poverty line. 14% of the citizens have HIV, and 40% don't have access to clean drinking water.
Zambia is home is 72 different ethnic groups, with over 70 different languages spoken. Religion is a prominent aspect in this country, with 75.3% being Protestant, 20.2% being Roman Catholic, and a smaller portion of other various religions.
